· If the resistance band folds over on itself and enters the handle. This makes it difficult for the resistance band to be adjusted to a different length.
o Open the locking mechanism as in the instructions.
o Align the opening where the resistance band enters the handle directly with the length of the resistance band.
o Grab the resistance band with one hand very close to the opening while your other hand holds the handle in alignment.
o Pull your hands away from each other firmly and the resistance band, with its folds, will come out of the handle.
o Continue to pull until all the folds are gone and gradually allow the resistance band to re-enter the handle, pulled by the retraction, making sure the resistance band does not fold onto itself.
· If the locking mechanism pops off its hinges. This makes it impossible to lock the resistance band in place.
o Align the three thin rods of the locking mechanism to their corresponding hinges on the handle (observe at the locking mechanism on the other handle for reference).
o Using both thumbs, press the rod firmly into its corresponding hinge until you hear it snap in place.
o Repeat with each rod and its corresponding hinge.
o If the locking mechanism is actually broken, do not use Retract-a-Band and contact us at Retract-a-Band.com immediately.
· If the resistance band does not retract back into the handle.
o Open the locking mechanism as instructed above.
o Align the opening where the resistance band enters the handle directly with the length of the resistance band. This should stimulate retraction of the elastic band back into the housing.
o If this does not solve the issue, contact us at Retract-a-Band.com for more information and a replacement of your Retract-a-Band if necessary.
· If the locking mechanism is difficult to release.
o Open the locking mechanism as instructed above and in "Helpful Hints" video on this website and snap it shut again several times consecutively to stretch the material. Repeat as necessary.
o Align the opening where the resistance band enters the handle directly with the length of the resistance band. This should stimulate retraction of the elastic band back into the housing.
o If this does not solve the issue, contact us at Retract-a-Band.com for more information and a replacement of your Retract-a-Band if necessary.
· If the resistance band breaks. This happens to all resistance bands when used frequently and/or have been torn by a sharp object (e.g. long fingernails).
o If both the two ends of the resistance band remain outside the handles, i.e. have not fully retracted into the handles, the band can be repaired. Make sure the locking mechanisms remain locked and go to Retract-a-Band.com/repair to follow the video on how to repair your resistance band.
o If either or both ends of a torn resistance band retracted fully into their respective handles, then the device is no longer functional. Retract-a-Band is recyclable so please discard it appropriately.
